Volkswagen introduced the Golf R in a more practical station wagon version

There has been speculation for some time about the inclusion of a more practical station wagon body in the range of the sporty Golf R. At the Los Angeles Auto Show , speculation turns into reality, and you'll be transporting the family with a hefty portion of cargo in the edgy bestseller.

The basic principle has not changed compared to the hatchback, and the Golf R Variant thus received a front bumper with larger air intakes, a different radiator grille, a rear diffuser with a double exhaust tip and 18-inch Cadiz wheels ( 19-inch Cadiz or Pretoria for an extra charge) with 225/40 tires . Bi-xenon lamps appear in the front lights in addition to the LED diodes for daytime running lights, the rear lights, together with the number plate lighting, are completely made of LEDs.

In the interior, the sports seats in a combination of leather and Alcantara with the R logo and black-grey color will impress. The steering wheel, also with the R logo, is flattened at the bottom and you will find sports alarms in front of it (the speedometer is rated up to 320 km/h). Other changes, such as blue backlighting , decors in the Carbon Race design or the R logo, are rather discreet. The equipment will not lack automatic air conditioning or multimedia system Composition Touch , for an additional fee you can get Nappa leather upholstery. The trunk holds 605 liters in the basic configuration, and 1,620 liters when the seats are folded down.

Under the hood will be a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0 TSI petrol engine with an output of 300 hp between 5500-6200 rpm with a torque of 380 Nm between 1800-5500 rpm. Thanks to the 4Motion all-wheel drive and the six-speed DSG automatic dual-clutch transmission, the Golf R Variant "shoots" to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and starts at a maximum (and obligatory) 250 km/h. At the same time, it consumes 7.0 liters of gasoline per 100 km and 163 g of CO2 per 1 km. Like the hatchback, the Variant received the ESC Sport stabilization system and the additional (with DCC adaptive dampers standard) Driving Profile Selector system with a choice of Eco, Normal, Individual and Race driving modes, in combination with the adaptive dampers there will also be a Comfort mode.
