Volkswagen Golf GTI VII will get a carbon version!

You've probably noticed a TV ad recently offering the current generation Volkswagen Golf at a huge discount and a package of equipment to go with it. That the concern would suddenly be generous? Nowhere. The manufacturer is only trying to sell out the warehouses before the arrival of the new, seventh generation of the popular hatchback. We have already described its technique and important elements in detail after the official presentation in Berlin .

Every time a new generation of Golf is introduced, the question arises about the GTI version. What will it be like? How many horses will he have? In short: sharp, fast, with 225 horsepower. But that's not the point now. Volkswagen has confirmed that, apart from the mandatory GTI , it is preparing another, lighter version. The car should be called the Golf Carbon GTI and, as you surely understood, the manufacturer will focus on the wide application of this material. Regardless of how advanced the platform of the seventh generation of the Golf is, due to the more extensive use of aluminum and carbon (roof, hood), the weight will be reduced again. According to current reports, up to 200 kilograms! However, the development of a lightweight structure is not single-purpose – Volkswagen will also use it to develop an electric version of the Golf .
Under the hood of the lightweight Golf , we find a turbocharged two-liter four-cylinder from the standard version. If the engine had the same output (166 kW), the car could accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds thanks to the significant weight reduction and easily reach over 250 km/h. You can also expect advanced technology in a similarly electronically controlled differential lock and lots of other helpers.
If all goes according to plan, the Volkswagen Golf Carbon GTI should see the roads of this world in 2014. It would make a great gift to celebrate the Golf's 40th birthday. We will bring more information after the official public premiere of the seventh generation Golf at the Paris Motor Show .
