Volkswagen Golf became the Japanese car of the year!

This year, the internationally recognized Volkswagen Golf model in its seventh generation won the title of world and European car of the year and many other more or less important awards. So why are we highlighting the victory in the Japanese poll? Because it is the first imported car in history to ever win JCOTY !

The Japan Car Of The Year (JCOTY) was established in 1980 and the prizes of this poll are awarded to new cars that arrived on the Japanese market between November of the previous year and October of the current year. The members of the JCOTY commission include exclusively Japanese journalists , of whom a total of 60 gathered this year. Until now, only domestic cars appeared on the first row overall, which only the current generation of the Volkswagen Golf managed to break through.

The victory is all the sweeter because Volkswagen is celebrating sixty years on the Japanese market this year. In addition, the Golf won by quite an overwhelming margin, scoring 504 points , while the second Honda Jazz only 373 and the third Volvo V40 167 . Of course, the Golf also won the subcategory of imported cars. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was awarded the prize for innovation , the Mazda Atenza (Mazda6) for emotion , the Suzki Spacia and Mazda Flair Wagon siblings for the concept of a small car, and the Daihatsu Move was awarded for a special element , whose front seats with their lifting system make it easier for seniors and the physically disabled to board.
