Unexpected reveal of the Monza concept before the premiere

At the beginning of July this year, we in the editorial office were literally happy that Opel plans to return the Monza name to its portfolio. We were really looking forward to the possibility of a full-fledged coupe with a "lightning bolt" on the front sixteen years after the Calibra left . Unfortunately, the new Monza was officially unveiled before its debut and really disappointed us.

Although the world premiere will take place next month at the exhibition center in Frankfurt , we already know everything important and the German brand really has nothing to surprise. The revealed concept with the old-new name Monza is undoubtedly a very futuristic car, but above all it points to the direction in which all car companies under the umbrella of General Motors will go in terms of design.

Many fans also have a problem as to which body it actually is. Some say it's a coupe, others say it's a station wagon. In fact, it can be said that it is some kind of mixture of both mentioned body variants. In any case, the large Gullwing-style hinged doors are not to be overlooked on the car, if you want gull-wings.

“Drivers will no longer have to look for the classic separate monitors that show other information – instead, they have a wide dashboard in front of them that stretches from door to door and is used as the only place to transmit information. Information and decorative elements are displayed on an area that the driver can adjust according to his ideas or the mood of the moment", says Opel, noting that 18 LED projectors were used for this.

The four-seater concept measures 4.69 meters in length and 1.31 meters in height. The car's cabin is lowered by 15 cm compared to regular production cars. Even so, everything is not lacking in spaciousness, the volume of the luggage compartment is equal to 500 liters . In the cabin, there is mainly interesting LED projector technology, which is used for the multimedia system and alarm clocks. The engine compartment houses the recently introduced three-cylinder 1.0 SIDI Turbo , which is modified to run on natural gas (CNG). Naturally , the electric motor is part of the drive unit.
