Toyota showed modernized members of the Corolla family

The Corolla is quite possibly the most well-known model of the Japanese Toyota , but the latest generation is only sold as a sedan in Europe. In Japan, the family of models is after all more branched out, when in addition to the Axio sedan , the Fielder station wagon is also on offer. And these two models have recently undergone continuous modernization.

The main element of the facelift is the introduction of the Toyota Safety Sense C safety assistant package, which works with a laser radar and a camera. It includes a pre-collision system, lane departure warning and automatic high beams. The specialty is a function that does not allow the driver to add gas, for example at a traffic light , before the car in front of him has started.

The design changes are dominated by the front part in the style of Under Priority with a trapezoidal intake opening in the bumper. In addition, the overall rendering of the front part is much more aerodynamic and, in the event of an accident, also friendlier to pedestrians. The shape of the headlights at both ends of the car has also undergone a transformation, the area around the registration plate in the fifth door is now more prominently shaped. The palette of body colors for the sedan was supplemented with a brown shade of Vitnage Pearl Crystal Shine, the station wagon got a new orange metallic. As part of individualization, Toyota offers several design packages , including W x B and Aerotourer with LEDs or an aerodynamic body kit for the Corolla Fielder. The first-mentioned version can also be painted with an additional shade of Cool Bordeaux Glass Flake.

The steering wheel, together with the head of the shift lever, is covered in leather , while in some equipment they are complemented by decors in black piano lacquer. The side vents on the dashboard have been reworked, LED-illuminated drink holders are also designed for front passengers. Only the driver will be able to use the retrofitted footrest in versions with automatic transmission. White interior upholstery is offered as an optional extra, it has this in combination with black in the standard W x B version. A specialty of Japanese cars is the version for the disabled, referred to by Toyota as Welcab , with a pull-out driver's seat.

Under the hood, the biggest innovation is the installation of a VVT-iE 2NR-FKE series 15 -liter gasoline engine with an output of 109 hp at 6,000 rpm and a torque of 136 Nm at 4,400 rpm, working in the Atkinson cycle. The unit is coupled to the front axle drive and the Super CVT-i automatic transmission in the sedan and station wagon, resulting in consumption of 4.2 l/100 km in the case of the Corolla Axio and 4.3 l/100 km in the case of the Corolla Fielder. Both models also offer the older 15-speed VVT-i series 1NZ-FE in combination with front or all-wheel drive and a five-speed manual or stepless automatic transmission, or a hybrid version with a total output of 100 hp and a consumption of 2.9 l/100 km. The Corolla Axio also got a basic 13 -liter engine with front-wheel drive and a Super CVT-i automatic transmission, while the Corolla Fielder received a gasoline 18 -liter engine in combination with front-wheel drive and a Super CVT-i automatic transmission. However, neither of these engines can be had in the Welcab version.
