Toyota is preparing a fun sedan

The success of the sporty GT86 is huge, and of course Toyota wants to capitalize on it. After an unsuccessful attempt with a cabriolet body , which most likely will not arrive in the end, the Japanese automaker focused on a more practical sedan .

The new sports sedan will have a wheelbase approximately 100 mm longer than the coupe, and the katana-inspired bodywork will also be different. However, the most important technical components of the chassis (or even the engine) will be the same.

Under the hood, we should expect a four-cylinder 2.0 gasoline engine with a power of 200 horsepower, which comes from Subaru. The novelty will be the use of a new generation hybrid drivetrain Hybrid R , which was shown for the first time recently in the small Yaris. With this engine, the GT86 should reach up to 272 horsepower, and a kinetic energy recovery system, known as KERS , can be expected. Fortunately, rear-wheel drive will remain.

The target group for the new sedan should be people in their forties who have driven cars like the Nissan Silvia, Honda S2000 or Toyota Corolla AE86, i.e. typical models with rear-wheel drive .

The sports sedan concept will most likely be shown next year in Geneva , but we won't see it in showrooms before the end of 2015 .
