Toyota is preparing a new model

Toyota has been planning a small sports car, positioned below the GT86 model for a long time. However, few expected that it could be a model using the design elements of the existing BMW 1 series .

The car, codenamed 69DZ , will receive a design similar to the existing 1 Series, as Toyota wants to succeed in the European market in particular, where "the right design" is a very important element. As can be seen in the illustration of the Japanese magazine Best Car , the novelty should most likely receive a hatchback body with three doors and a long front hood.

An equally interesting part is the fact that BMW can also take part in the development, which is currently developing the successor to the Supra and the Z4 roadster with Toyota. The small coupe (or hatchback) should be powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine developed in collaboration with Yamaha, which will produce 130 hp at 6,500 rpm and a torque of 150 Nm at 4,500 rpm.

Similar to the GT86, weight will play a primary role in the new model, which will be well under one tonne. The rear wheels should be driven using a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, while the consumption should be an incredible 3.33 l/100 km. We will soon find out if these speculations are true. Specifically, next year at the Tokyo Motor Show , where the concept is to be premiered. The series version will follow in 2017.
