The Toyota GT86 will not get a hybrid variant

You can find speculation about the expansion of the Toyota GT86 engine range in the media practically all the time. A version with a turbocharger and also a hybrid variant were to be added to the naturally aspirated two-liter. But Toyota rejected this.

As the brand's marketing director Fabio Capano told Autocar , Toyota does have the technology needed to develop a hybrid GT86 (the brand's sports hybrid drive is reportedly in an advanced stage of development), but such a car must also make sense for sales. A GT86 with a hybrid drive would be a car for a minority group of customers , moreover, its development would cost a large amount of money with an almost unrealistic return.

On the other hand, where a hybrid drive could and should appear is the upcoming sports car, developed with BMW . Here, Toyota could take advantage of the experience from Le Mans , where it races with a hybrid prototype, and transfer something similar to regular roads.
