In 2007, the French brand Peugeot presented a new representative of the lower middle class with the designation 308 , thus becoming the successor of the 307 model. But just these days, the British Autocar came with the first information about the new generation Peugeot 308 .
The French automaker's production director, Laurent Blanchet , revealed: "The new generation of the 308 will finally look like a conventional hatchback compared to the current generation, which resembles something between a sedan and a hatchback". In terms of appearance, the new Peugeot 308 will be based more or less on the Onyx concept (premiered at last year's Paris Motor Show), especially in the front parts, and also on the Peugeot 504 Coupé .
The new "three hundred and eight" will be the first adept of the Peugeot brand to ride on the brand new EMP2 platform . We can compare this to the MQB modular platform from the Volkswagen concern. Alliance PSA wants to use the mentioned platform mainly for C and D segment models . The rear suspension will be provided by a multi-link or single axle.
Blanchet went on to say that the new platform will provide the 308 with a "wheel in every corner" layout. In addition, the model will have smaller overhangs, which means a more dynamic look. The engine will sit lower, allowing for a more aggressive rendering of the front end with a lower hood than is the case with current Peugeots. A lower front end will also make it possible to improve the driving position. The Peugeot 308 will also undergo a reduced diet, as it will lose up to 70 kg of weight. This means that the new generation will offer a weight of around 1300 kg .
We could expect another name change for the new model (e.g. 307 -> 308), but Peugeot confirmed that the models with the final number 8 will be aimed at current markets, and the final designation 1 will be a model for emerging markets. With a fresh design and new technology, the new Peugeot 308 wants to compete with, for example, the Volkswagen Golf VII and the Ford Focus .
