Subaru WRX will once again offer a sedan body and a two-liter engine

The previous generation of Subaru Impreza and the derived variant WRX and WRX STI received significant criticism from the lay and expert public. Its main point was the absence of a four-door version of the WRX sports variant and the replacement of the classic two-liter engine with a half-liter larger unit.

Fortunately, this time is already forgotten, because at the auto show in Los Angeles , Subaru shows the new generation WRX , which not only returns to the sedan body and two-liter engine, but also drops the name Impreza from the name.

The design is perhaps a bit staid compared to the concept , but still quite dynamic thanks to the intake opening in the hood, extended fenders, bumpers or seventeen-inch wheels. We basically know the interior from the XV crossover, which is the only derivative of the current Impreza sold in our country. Thanks to the sporty character of the car, we will get sports seats and a steering wheel or carbon decor.

Under the hood, a turbocharged two-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of 272 hp and a torque of 349 Nm returns. You can choose from a classic six-speed manual or a Sport Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission. Both transmissions transmit power to all wheels, with the difference that while the manual has a central differential with a viscous clutch and a 50:50 torque split, the automatic uses a planetary differential and an electronically controlled hydraulic inter-axle clutch with a 45:55 torque split .

The chassis is made of high- strength steel and offers a sports suspension in combination with a newly set electronic power steering. Sales of the new WRX will begin early next year .
