Skoda Rapid Spaceback in more details

Much has been written about the new Rapid Spaceback . It all started on July 15, when Skoda officially revealed a new body variant of the Rapid liftback and thereby also announced its entry into the lower middle class hatchback segment. Later, the news about the start of production followed, and today we can imagine the Spaceback almost down to the last screw .

The design is the responsibility of Jozef Kabaň , who imprinted the Rapida Spaceback with dynamic contours. According to Skoda, the car should appeal at first glance with sporty freshness and dynamic elegance , characterized by the sharp, high side line of the Tornado and the small rear window between the C and D pillars. The rear lights also feature the typical C shape.

The most interesting design and functional element is the optional panoramic roof , which extends from the edge of the windshield to the rear and has a size of 1,713 x 1,155 mm (view area 1,210 x 780 mm). Even more attractive is the panoramic roof of the Rapid Spaceback model in combination with the extended rear window . In this case, the dark glass area extends from the edge of the windshield to the middle of the fifth door. The black tinted extended rear window ends approximately ten centimeters lower than the regular rear window.

In terms of size, the Rapid Spaceback ranks in the better average of the lower middle class – with a length of 4304 mm, a width of 1706 mm and a height of 1459 mm, it surpasses, for example, the Seat Leon or the Toyota Auris. The wheelbase will have the same value as that of the liftback – i.e. 2602 mm. What will improve is the use of the luggage compartment, which has a volume of 415 liters in the basic configuration and offers up to 1,380 liters when the rear seats are folded down.

Four petrol units (1.2 MPI – 75 hp, 1.2 TSI – 85 and 105 hp, 1.4 TSI – 122 hp) and two diesel units (1.6 TDI – 90 and 105 hp) will appear under the hood. A five-speed manual (1.2 MPI, 1.2 TSI – 85 hp and 1.6 TDI), a six-speed manual (1.2 TSI – 105 hp) and a seven-speed DSG automatic (standard for the 1.4 TSI, extra charge for the 1.6 TDI – 90 hp) will be available.

With the introduction of the Rapid Spaceback model, the C-EPS power steering is also coming to the market for the first time in the Rapid model line, where instead of hydraulics, a program-controlled electric motor, which works depending on the current speed and is located on the steering column, helps to turn the steering wheel. Among the other elements of safety equipment, the Rapid Spaceback gets frontal, side and head airbags, three-point seat belts, height-adjustable headrests or the ABS and ESC system right from the start. Xenon headlights , tire pressure control, fog lights with Corner function or hill start assistant will be available for an extra charge.

Officially, the Rapid Spaceback will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show . Sales will subsequently start in October this year , when we will also find out how much the Rapid Spacback can be purchased for.
