SUV cabrio is not an uncommon concept anymore, but in 2010, when Nissan introduced the controversial Murano CrossCabriolet, it was. Next in line was the Range Rover Evoque Cabrio, but not until five years later. After that, there were only speculations that maybe Mercedes-Benz is working on something similar, but quietly.
The latest addition from the domestic automaker could be added to the family of SUV convertibles, but it is not, as it is only a concept. It was built by a group of 23 students from various fields of the Skoda Auto corporate school, and used the popular Karoq model as a basis. The presented concept bears the name Sunroq and is essentially a Karoq without a roof.
The Skoda Sunroq is the fifth model of the Azubi student family, in other words, it will join other projects such as Citijet, Funstar, Atero and Element in the Mladá Boleslav garages. The Sunroq remained a four-door car and received a rear boot lid in particular, as the original was dependent on the roof being removed.
The chassis also remained unchanged, and the standard 1.5 TSI gasoline engine hides under the hood. The Sunroq accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 204 km/h. Thanks to the absence of a roof, the A- and B-pillars also had to undergo changes. To make the Sunroq dazzle the public even more intensely, the students chose the bright red Velvet paint from the automaker's offer. If you like the new project, we have to disappoint you, because unfortunately the concept will never see serial production.
