Skoda Octavia RS officially revealed! Premiere in a month at Goodwood

After a long wait and countless spy shots we couldn't use, it's finally here. Today, the fastest mass-produced Octavia in the history of the Mladá Boleslav car company was officially unveiled. However, we will have to wait a little longer for the first personal contact. The new heresy will not have its world premiere until July 10 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed .

First, let's take a look under the hood. To the delight of Czech thrifts, the option of choosing a diesel four-cylinder with a volume of 2.0 liters and a maximum power of 135 kW remained. Compared to the previous generation, there was an increase in power by 10 kW, which, together with the lower weight of the car, has a favorable effect on the output parameters. Octavia RS TDI accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds, maximum speed is 232 km/h .

The other side of the barricade will appreciate the increase in performance even in the version with a gasoline engine. The four-cylinder two-liter TSI increased from 147 kW to 162 kW , and according to the first reports, it looks like a very pleasant ride. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes only 6.8 seconds and the maximum speed is 248 km/h . The next generation of the Octavia RS will therefore already have the phrase "maximum speed is limited to 250 km/h".

Compared to the second generation Octavia RS, the new engines have higher performance and at the same time up to 19 percent lower fuel consumption . The start-stop system and brake energy recovery are part of the standard equipment. Either a manual or automatic DSG dual-clutch transmission is available as an option for both engines. Both cabinets have six gears.

The new sports chassis, with which the Octavia RS is equipped as standard, contributes to the best possible driving characteristics. The body was reduced by 12 mm compared to the standard version (by 13 mm in the station wagon). The rear wheels use a newly developed multi-element axle , the front has a MacPherson type axle with triangular lower arms. The standard equipment also includes the XDS electronic differential lock , integrated into the ESC electronic stabilization program. The function improves wheel traction and reduces the tendency to understeer during fast cornering. Better controllability and greater agility are made possible by the new electromechanical steering with variable transmission.

For the new Octavia RS, four alloy wheel designs will be available in sizes 17, 18 and 19". The complete basis consists of 17" Dorado wheels with 225/45 tires. Eighteen-inch wheels in the Gemini and Pictoris design, shod with 220/45 tires, are the intermediate level. The biggest terno, however, is the 19" Xtrem rims you see in the pictures. They only come in black.

Because the new Octavia RS is really fast , the automaker has equipped it with a number of safety systems. For example, let's name the Front Assistant system with an emergency brake function, Lane Assistant for driving in lanes, multi-collision brake with automatic intervention in the event of an accident, Crew Protect Assistant to secure the car in situations threatening an accident or Driver Activity Assistant , which detects the degree of driver fatigue. In the event of an accident, an extensive package of passive safety equipment, which includes up to nine airbags , will ensure the maximum possible protection of the driver and passengers.

Octavia does not lack in the field of comfort either. The car can be equipped with adaptive cruise control, the Intelligent Light Assistant system, which automatically switches between main and dipped headlights, a parking assistant or a road sign recognition system. Convenient access is ensured by keyless unlocking and starting KESSY .

The new Skoda Octavia RS will have its premiere on July 10 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Prices will probably be published here as well. Sales in the Czech Republic will start two days later on the occasion of the start of the 40th anniversary Rally Bohemia.
