Skoda Auto produced the three millionth 1.2 HTP gasoline engine . The three-cylinder unit of the EA 111 series has been produced since 2001 at the main plant of Skoda Auto in Mladá Boleslav and is used in Skoda, Seat and Volkswagen cars. In addition to EA 111 series engines in 1.2 HTP and 1.2 TSI variants, Skoda produces 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI EA 211 series engines and manual and automatic transmissions in the Czech Republic. The automaker also just produced the 500,000 MQ/SQ 100 transmission .
"Our company has been producing engines for almost 115 years. Skoda is thus one of the car companies with the longest tradition of engine production and development," says Michael Oeljeklaus , member of the Skoda Auto board of directors responsible for production and logistics. "These jubilees, i.e. 3,000,000 1.2 HTP engines produced and 500,000 MQ/SQ 100 transmissions produced, are proof of the performance of local production. We will further strengthen this technological competence in the coming years," adds Oeljeklaus .
The 1.2 HTP engine from the EA 111 series has been produced in Mladá Boleslav since 2001. The popular three-cylinder gasoline engine is used in the Fabia, Roomster and Rapid models . The abbreviation HTP stands for High Torque Performance . Even at low revs, the unit is remarkably powerful, while the engine impresses with its high efficiency and low weight.
In addition to the production of engines, the focus of component production at Skoda Auto lies in the production of transmissions . The Vrchlabí plant produces the DQ 200 automatic dual-clutch transmission . At the Mladá Boleslav plant, Skoda Auto produces the MQ 200 manual transmission and the MQ/SQ 100 transmission. In March 2014, the 500,000th transmission of the MQ/SQ 100 series rolled off the production line. Skoda Auto has been producing the MQ/SQ 100 transmission, which is also used in Skoda Citigo city cars, since mid-2011.
