We have written a lot about the third generation Skoda Fabia , but now we can please you with an official photo and also a set of very interesting information . For example, you will learn from them that the novelty will no longer be disproportionate and will offer the latest generation of electronic assistants.
But let's start with what can be read from the published image. So above all, the new Fabia will look sportier . It is obvious at first glance that it will be lower and, above all, wider than its predecessor . Many details were already visible on the VisionC concept, but the main inspiration is the latest models of the brand – Octavia and Rapid . The larger model was inspired by the lights, while the smaller Rapid was inspired by the radiator grille. From a design point of view, the rising window line is interesting, and those who have already seen the Fabia live claim that the lights are significantly influenced by the first generation of the small hatchback . The Fabia won't get big wheels like in the published picture, but we can count on up to seventeen-inch rims.
Speaking of dimensions, the Fabia, sitting on a modified PQ25 platform, is 8mm shorter, 31mm lower and 90mm wider than its predecessor. In the overall language of numbers, this means 3992 mm in length , 1467 mm in height and 1732 mm in width – so the criticized disproportion of the two-wheel model is gone. The 2470 mm long wheelbase has been extended by 5 mm , and the wheel track has also increased – by 30 mm at the front and 31 mm at the rear. The trunk holds 330 liters (+15 liters) in the basic configuration , but only 1150 liters (-30 liters) when the rear seats are folded down. For the first time ever, the lightest model has a curb weight below one ton , namely 980 kg.
Under the hood, we can expect engines that are already well known across the Volkswagen concern. The basis will be the three-cylinder 1.0 MPI with a capacity of 60 and 75 hp from the Citigo, the next step will be the turbocharged four-cylinder 1.2 TSI with a capacity of 90 and 110 hp, which will also become the petrol top of the range. There will be a choice of three versions of the three-cylinder 1.4 TDI with 75, 90 and 105 hp diesel units. All engines, with the exception of the most powerful TSI six-cylinder, will be equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox . An optional seven-speed DSG automatic transmission is also available for the middle diesel and the most powerful TSI. All engines comply with the Euro 6 emission standard , have an aluminum block and a stop-start system as standard. The third Fabia will be equipped with electromechanical power steering , the chassis will receive new axles and chassis suspension, which will provide better comfort and driving characteristics.
Inside, the Fabie overlaps in many ways with the modernized Pole. For example, in the higher versions of the equipment, the MIB multimedia system with a 6.5-inch touch screen will be the basis. Hand in hand with the multimedia system will also go the optional MirrorLink function , which allows smartphones with the Windows or Android operating system to connect the mobile phone to the infotainment via USB and project navigation (the Fabia will not be equipped with it even for an additional fee) or call information onto it. The downloadable Smartgate application is also connected to this function, through which one can see, for example, congestion or economical driving.
From other electronic assistants, the Fabia will receive a speed limiter , keyless entry, a fatigue monitor, a multi-collision brake , automatic lights and wipers, or a rear parking camera. Six airbags, ESP and finally central locking appear in the basic equipment. In the additional comfort equipment we can find a panoramic roof , on the other hand, you would look for xenon lights in vain.
The premiere of the hatchback is scheduled for this year's Paris Motor Show . The basic price should be around 9,945 pounds (approx. 345,000 CZK) in Britain, but it will certainly be lower in the Czech Republic. In the spring of 2015 (most likely in Geneva), we can expect the premiere of a more practical variant of the station wagon , followed by a sporty version of the Monte Carlo . A truly sporty version of the RS is not expected in the third generation.
