Last year, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade announced a public competition for the production of alternative drive vehicles. Unsurprisingly, this competition was won by AvtoVAZ , better known to most markets as Lada.
And it was Lada that started the development of a hybrid car . It received 499 million rubles (approx. 313 million crowns) from the ministry for this operation and wants to establish a separate AvtoSreda brand to develop the hybrid model.
The Granta sedan was chosen as the most suitable basis for the new model, in which the hybrid system should consist of an electric motor and a 1.4 or 1.6 four-cylinder gasoline engine. The output of the model should then be at least 120 horsepower. It is assumed that AvtoVAZ will develop several types of hybrid drives, which it will gradually test and then select the final one from among them.
It will then be submitted to the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade at the end of 2014 , which will most likely decide on production. Many foreign companies and experts are collaborating on the hybrid model project, which has already started, and it has also reached universities and various research institutes.
If Lada manages to bring the project to a successful conclusion, we will definitely see the cheapest hybrid car on the planet . The question remains what kind of response it will earn, especially on the domestic market.
