Renault discontinued Twinga RS production

Renault discontinued the small and fun Twingo RS . The model, which has not been offered by the Czech importer for some time, was the last sharp Renault with a non-turbocharged engine.

And it will probably also remain the last non-turbocharged sports model in the entire history of the car company. Because starting with the new Clio, all RenaultSport models get a turbocharger under the hood. In addition, the Twingo RS will most likely not even see a successor. The salvation in this regard could perhaps only be the upcoming Gordini models.

But why will Renault most likely not produce a successor to the sharp Twingo ? They say it could be too dangerous for novice drivers! As an explanation, the automaker's bosses state that the standard Twingo will be equipped with a rear engine and rear-wheel drive from the third generation, which is being developed together with the Smart. And that could make a real mess in the hands of an inexperienced driver.

However, if luck were to smile on us, enthusiasts, and the new Twingo RS would get the green light, a supercharged three-cylinder 0.9 TCe would probably appear under the hood! The only link between the outgoing RS and its possible successor would be the use of a manual transmission . After all, the EDC double clutch is too heavy to use in such a small model.

But say for yourself – three-cylinder or nothing? I'll leave the decision up to you…
