Range Rover Sport 2014 – Official presentation

The 113th edition of the New York International Auto Show will open its doors this Friday and will present more than 1,000 recent cars on its exhibition grounds. At the same time, a small revolution will take place at the Range Rover stand, which has chosen American soil as the place for the official presentation of the new generation of the Sport model. It replaces the existing, eight-year-old version, and outclasses the competition with an all-aluminum body and technology from the new generation of the large Range Rover.

The new Range Rover Sport will go on sale in October this year. The manufacturer refers to it as the fastest and most agile Range Rover ever, which is fully supported by the published range of engines. The basis will be a six-cylinder diesel TDV6 with a volume of 3.0 liters and a maximum power of 190 kW. For now, the most powerful diesel in the range will be the 3.0 SDV6 engine with 215 kW. I write "for now" on purpose, because the 4.4 SDV8 engine with 250 kW should appear on the scene later this year.

Those interested in gasoline units will be able to choose between the well-known eight-cylinder 5.0 Supercharged with an output of 385 kW and the new six-cylinder 3.0 V6 Supercharged (250 kW). Both versions are supercharged.

The arrival of a hybrid version is expected next year, and even the installation of a turbocharged four-cylinder two-liter gasoline engine is being considered. Either way, all the engines mentioned so far will work with smart four-wheel drive, an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a Stop/Start system.

Just like the big Range Rover , which is already happily driving around Czech roads, the Sport also got an all-aluminum body. This saved an incredible 420 kilograms , thanks to which the car with the TDV6 engine weighs only 2115 kg . At the same time, the weight did not decrease at the expense of the external dimensions. On the contrary. The new Range Rover Sport has been extended by 62 millimeters between generations, the wheelbase is even 178 millimeters longer! This allowed the installation of a third row of seats, which until now had only been the privilege of the Land Rover Discovery .

As I already indicated, sales will begin in the third quarter of this year, in 169 markets around the world. Customers will be able to choose between the S, SE, HSE and Autobiography versions. According to unofficial information, the base price with the TDV6 engine will rise to 1.8 million crowns .
