Range Rover presents its first hybrid cars

Even the British Land Rover did not resist new ways and presented its first two hybrid cars through the Range Rover brand. So after experimenting with the electric Defender , Land Rover seems to be looking for an alternative route.

The Ranger Rover and the Range Rover Sport Hybrid share the same powertrain. This consists of a 3.0 SDV6 diesel unit with a power of 306 hp and an electric motor that is integrated into an eight-speed ZF automatic, with a power of 48 hp and a torque of 170 Nm. The maximum power of the hybrid SUV is 340 hp at 4000 rpm and the torque of 700 Nm is available between 1500 – 3000 rpm.

Thanks to the installation of an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery and other small things , the weight increased by more than 120 kg . The classic Range Rover thus weighs 2394 kg, the smaller Sport 2372 kg. Despite the higher weight, both versions offer pleasant dynamics – the classic Range has a maximum speed of 218 km/h and reaches 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, the Sport version goes up to 225 km/h and reaches 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

The paper consumption of both models is 6.4 l/100 km, and both models release 169 g of CO2/km into the atmosphere. Environmentalists will surely be pleased that both SUVs can travel only on electric power for a distance of about 1.6 km and up to a speed of 48 km/h.

The premiere of the model will take place in Frankfurt , where we could also learn the price of the model. Dealers will start accepting the first orders as early as September 10, but those interested in the cars will not see them physically until 2014. And in order for the automaker to adequately demonstrate the advantages of hybrids, the cars will go on a 16,000-kilometer Silk Trail expedition that will lead from Solihull, England, to Mumbai, India.
