After the Fiat Ducato, sold in America as the Ram ProMaster , another Fiat utility vehicle is heading to the other side of the Atlantic. The increasingly expanding segment of compact vans will want to revive the Ram ProMaster City , built on the foundations of the Fiat Dobló.
However, the Italian van was suitably modified for the needs of the American market , receiving 10 mm more ground clearance , better chassis protection, or a modified front axle and engine bay to accommodate the larger Tigershark four-cylinder and automatic transmission . The front axle is equipped with MacPherson struts, modified for use on American roads, at the rear we find independent wheel suspension. Shock absorbers, springs, steering and brakes were also newly tuned.
The design differs from the Dobl only in details, including a new front end with smaller headlights and a larger radiator grille, a different front bumper and, of course, different manufacturer logos. The wheels measure 16 inches and are shod with all-season tires , which is another change from the Dobl. Although the body is not much different, the interior is completely different from the European model. The basis is the Uconnect multimedia system , which of course is related to the completely new design of the center console. The steering wheel and alarm clocks are also different, the shelf in front of the passenger has moved a little higher.
The ProMaster City will be offered in two versions – the commercial Tradesman and the passenger Wagon , which seats 5 passengers in two rows, with the second three-seater bench folding 60/40. Both models ride on a wheelbase of 3109 mm , have rear doors that can be opened in a ratio of 60/40 to an angle of 90 or 180 degrees, and following the model of European vans, both also have a pair of side sliding doors . The utility variant can hold up to 3,729 liters of cargo, has a load capacity of 854 kg and can be towed behind a cart weighing up to 907 kg. The width of the cargo space is 1534.2 mm, the length is 2214.9 mm, and there is a space between the wheel arches of 1229.4 mm. The list of additional equipment includes an anti-slip cargo area floor or a roof rack from Mopar with a load capacity of 70 kg.
The engine is powered by a 2.4 Tigershark four-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 186 hp and a torque of 234 Nm. Of course, the front wheels are driven by a nine-speed automatic transmission , which is supposed to ensure the best operating economy in the class. Production will take place at the Turkish TOFAS factory in Bursa, where the sibling Fiat Dobló is also produced.
