The compact SUV segment plays an increasingly important role in new car sales, and the German car manufacturer Porsche is not going to be left behind. He wants to follow up on the huge success of his Cayenne SUV with a smaller and sportier Macan . He has just officially revealed himself.
In terms of appearance, the novelty clearly follows on from the brand's other models, especially the hybrid supersport 918 Spyder , which represents the evolution of the manufacturer's design language. At first glance, the Macan is therefore clearly recognizable as a member of the Porsche family. The wide stance and dramatic roofline also help.
The Porsche Macan will go on sale in three variants. The weakest will be the Macan S , powered by a 3.0 ls six-cylinder gasoline engine with a pair of turbochargers and a power of 340 hp . All-wheel drive with a preferred rear axle and a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox are already standard for this model. Acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h takes place in 5.4 seconds and the top speed is 254 km/h . The indicated combined consumption is around 9l/100km . The second variant is the Macan S Diesel with a 3.0l six-cylinder diesel engine with a power of 258 horsepower under the hood. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and the top speed is 230 km/h . The combined consumption should be around 6.2l/100km . Both of these models can be recognized by the round exhaust tips.
The highlight of the range will be the Macan Turbo with a turbocharged 3.6l V6 , which is making its debut in a Porsche car. Its power is equal to 400 horsepower , which is enough to sprint from zero to one hundred in 4.8 seconds . The top speed is 266 km/h and the indicated combined consumption is approximately 9 l/100 km . The Macan Turbo can then be recognized by the angular exhaust tips.
The new SUV will be produced with three types of chassis , where the basic one will use classic steel springs and aluminum axles with a five-element structure at the front and a multi-element structure at the rear. Another option is the combination of this chassis with the PASM adaptive damper system , which allows you to select driving modes called Comfort , Sport and Sport Plus . The highlight of the offer is the chassis with air suspension and the PASM system. This variant has a lower ground clearance of 15 mm compared to the base and the possibility of setting it in three heights – High Level I raises the chassis by 40 mm to the resulting 230 mm, Normal Level and Low Level .
The Macan S and Macan S Diesel ride on standard 235/60 R18 front and 255/55 R18 rear tires. The more powerful Macan Turbo will offer 235/55 R19 front and 255/50 R19 rear, with 20- or 21-inch wheels available for all models.
The standard equipment of every Macan also includes an off-road mode , which is activated by a button on the center console at a speed of up to 80 km/h. This mode switches all relevant systems to off-road settings. For example, the inter-axle clutch is ready to react more quickly to slippage, the response of the gearbox and gas pedal will change, the air suspension will rise to its highest position, and so on.
Traditionally , Porsche will offer rich additional equipment, the most interesting elements of which include the Sport Chrono package. This sets the chassis, engine, transmission and exhaust tone to a sportier note and, using the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, brings the driver such data as time per lap, distance traveled in a given lap and time, duration of the drive and much more. An integral part is also Launch Control , which shortens the sprint to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds .
The production line in Leipzig is ready to produce approximately 50,000 Macans per year , while this new Porsche will be available in the Czech Republic from April 5, 2014 . Czech prices are still unknown, but German prices start at 57,930 euros (approx. 1,578,000 CZK including VAT) for the Macan S and Macan S Diesel alike. The top-of-the-line Macan Turbo will then cost 79,826 euros , i.e. roughly 2,175,000 CZK including VAT.
