Porsche is preparing to use four-cylinder engines with a turbo

Nowadays, low consumption and reduced CO2 emissions are not only of interest to manufacturers of mass-market models, but also to manufacturers from whom it would probably not be expected. In order to improve ecology, Porsche sacrifices six-cylinder gasoline engines under the hood of the Cayman and Boxster models.

According to the latest scenario, the naturally aspirated six-cylinder in the next generation will replace the turbocharged four-cylinder with counter-rotating pistons and an output of 400 horsepower. This means that the basic versions of both models will easily skip the current top of the range, which are models with the GTS designation and 330 and 340 horsepower respectively.

The inspiration was the use of a four-cylinder already in the racing model 919 Hybrid for endurance events, but it should be noted that the two-liter four-cylinder still works with an electric motor in the 919. So there is no danger of that with the Cayman or the Boxster yet.

The question arises as to which of the models will be the next victim of reducing consumption and emissions . According to unconfirmed speculations, the Macan SUV will also get this turbocharged four-cylinder, but we are much more interested in the situation surrounding the next generation 911 . Will Porsche go even further?
