Porsche introduced the Cayenne for the 2015 model year

The modernization of the Porsche Cayenne is more extensive than it seems at first glance. The design of the body and interior is new, new engines got under the hood and the chassis was also modified.

The designers have refreshed the body design with a new radiator grille and a completely redesigned front bumper with active slats for better air supply to the engine, which will ensure better cooling. The hood, front fenders, rear bumper with modified exhaust tips , trunk lid with a new place for the license plate, and rear lights , which have a new shape and offer a 3D effect, were also redesigned. Speaking of lights, the front ones on the Diesel, S and S E-Hybrid versions are bi-xenon with LEDs for daytime running lights , and on the Turbo version they are even entirely LED and offer the Porsche Dynamic Light system. In the interior, the design of the multifunctional steering wheel with paddle shifters under the steering wheel was changed. The rear seats are now more comfortable and can be equipped with ventilation for an additional fee.

The chassis of the Cayenne was slightly modified, which now promises more comfort , which, however, will not be redeemed by poorer driving characteristics. No stone was left unturned under the hood – all versions received a stop/start system integrated into the eight-speed Tiptronic automatic, new thermal management and the already mentioned active slats , which are opened or closed depending on the engine's needs.

The Cayenne S gets a 3.6-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine that replaces the naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 in the previous model, from the smaller Macan Turbo SUV, which has 420 hp at 6,000 rpm and 550 Nm of torque, available between 1,350 – 4,500 rpm It means an intergenerational increase of 20 hp and 50 Nm . The Cayenne S needs 5.5 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (5.4 seconds with the Sport Chrono package) and can hit a top speed of 259 km/h, all while consuming between 9.5 – 9.8 l/ 100 km and CO2 emissions between 223 – 229 g/km. Acceleration thus improved by 0.4 seconds compared to its predecessor, and the maximum speed increased by 1 km/h, while consumption, on the other hand, decreased by 1 l/100 km.

The second petrol variant is the Cayenne Turbo with a 4.8 liter twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder engine that produces 520 hp at 6,000 rpm and 750 Nm of torque, available between 2,250 – 4,000 rpm. This means an increase of 20 hp and 50 Nm. The Turbo reaches 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds (4.4 seconds with the Sport Chrono package) and has a top speed of 278 km/h, consumption is between 11.2 – 11.5 l/100 km .

The more economical side of the Cayenne is represented by the Diesel and S Diesel versions. Under the hood, the Cayenne Diesel has a three-liter six-cylinder with an output of 262 hp at 4,000 rpm with a torque of 580 Nm between 1,750 – 2,500 rpm. With consumption between 6.6 – 6.8 l/100 km (CO2 emissions 173 – 179 g/km), the Diesel sprints to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds (7.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono package) and takes a maximum at 221 km/h. The more powerful Cayenne Diesel S has a 4.2-liter eight-cylinder under the hood with a power of 385 hp at 3750 rpm with a torque of 850 Nm between 2000 – 2750 rpm, which can propel the large SUV to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds ( 5.3 seconds with the Sport Chrono package). The maximum speed is 252 km/h, while consumption does not exceed 8 l/100 km (CO2 emissions 209 g/km).

Finally, the probably most interesting variant is the plug-in hybrid Cayenne S E-Hybrid , replacing the previous Cayenne S Hybrid. Under the hood of the plug-in hybrid SUV, we find a three-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine with a compressor with a capacity of 333 hp and an electric motor with a capacity of 70 kW, the car's system output is 416 hp at 5500 rpm and the torque is 590 Nm between 1250 – 4000 rpm . The electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 10.8 kWh, which is enough for a purely electric range, depending on the driving style, between 18 – 36 km with a maximum speed of 125 km/h. If the car drives in combined, i.e. hybrid mode, it reaches a maximum speed of 243 km/h and sprints to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Combined consumption is at the level of 3.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions at 79 g/km.
