Porsche Boxster 981 – Information, prices

Some time ago, we reported on the preparatory Porsche Boxster, bearing the designation 981. At that time, we could only argue about the details and had to be satisfied with only spy pictures, but today everything is different and we have the honor to present to you a completely new two-seater roadster from the Stuttgart automaker. It is lighter, slimmer and has a completely redesigned chassis.

The new Porsche Boxster 981 series is what a large group of drivers of all ages have been waiting for. But the result is perhaps even better than everyone imagined – a balanced body design with short overhangs, a longer wheelbase, a wider wheelbase and, above all, a centrally located engine is exactly the recipe that is in demand these days.

You can buy the new roadster in two variants, both of which have the characteristic flat-six engine with direct fuel injection, brake energy recovery and Start/Stop system under the hood.

The Boxster version has a six-cylinder with a volume of 2.7 liters and a maximum output of 195 kW. So there was an increase of 10 kW compared to the previous 987 series. More skilled drivers can reach for the Boxster S version, which offers 232 kW of power, boosting it by 5 kW. Both versions come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, the PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission is optional.

Low weight and high engine performance go hand in hand with low fuel consumption and excellent driving dynamics. The Boxster version thus accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and consumes an average of 7.7 liters of Natural per 100 kilometers. The Boxster S version pushes the boundaries a little further – it accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds and claims an average of 8 l/100 km.

However, Porsche cars are not only about high performance and low weight, but also about polished electronic systems. So there is electromechanical power steering, fully automatic roof folding, the necessary Sport Chrono package with the magic Sport+ button and a PTV system with a mechanical rear differential lock.

The Porsche Boxster and Boxster S will go on sale in Germany on 14/04/2012. Prices start at €48,200 and €59,120 respectively for the Boxster S version.
