Pininfarina is considering a return to custom production!

In recent years, well-known body shops in the world have had quite significant problems with obtaining orders and the resulting financial deficiencies. However, it is starting to look like the situation could partially improve , as the Italian Pininfarina is very seriously considering a return to this type of business. What can we expect?

In the last twenty years or so, car manufacturers have started to be able to produce models in low numbers themselves . This meant a decrease in work for established body shops and resulting financial difficulties . And to make matters worse, a recession soon followed. Many body shops therefore either went bankrupt, were bought out or reoriented to a different type of business. Pininfarin u, whose work is known worldwide mainly thanks to the many different Ferraris , without exception. Now there could be a turn for the better .

This Italian company ran into the biggest problems during the transition to so-called pay-for-production at the beginning of the new millennium. In practice, this meant that instead of car companies paying for production in advance, Pininfarina first financed the entire preparation and start-up, and customers paid only according to the number of cars produced . Which turned out to be a big problem in case of lower than expected sales of manufactured cars . These include, for example, the Alfa Romeo Spider , Mitsubishi CZC , Volvo C70 or Ford Focus CC .

According to the new plans, Pininfarina would no longer produce tens of thousands of cars per year, but only hundreds , and the number of different cars would also be reduced. Therefore, cooperation with premium car manufacturers is the most likely, and negotiations are already underway with several of them. We support Pininfarina 's plans and look forward to their eventual results. Do you think that the Italian company will manage to start custom production so that it no longer makes a profit ?
