Peugeot presented the station wagon based on the 308 in more detail

We first wrote about the Peugeot 308 SW at the beginning of the year, when Peugeot released the first images and a little information . Despite the fact that the new station wagon was also present at the Brussels Motor Show , where only selected guests of the brand saw it, the world premiere will take place in a week in Geneva .

The new 308 SW mainly benefits from the wheelbase, which is 11 cm longer compared to the hatchback, or the rear overhang, which is even 22 cm longer compared to the shorter variant. The lower middle class station wagon measures 4585 mm in length, 1804 mm in width and 1471 mm in height. The luggage compartment holds 556 liters in the basic configuration and another 54 liters under the trunk floor. After folding the "Magic Flat" rear seats, there is a space of 1606 liters + of course the 54 liters under the floor.

Under the hood, we can find gasoline and diesel engines that meet the Euro 6 emission standard. For now, the basic gasoline unit will be a three-cylinder 1.2 e-THP with PureTech technology with an output of 130 hp and a torque of 230 Nm. The unit will be combined with a six-speed manual, and from the summer also with a six-speed automatic. The second petrol engine will be a 1.6 THP with a power of 155 hp. Along with the automatic for the 1.2 e-THP, a second turbocharged three-cylinder with PureTech technology will arrive in the summer, this time with 110 horsepower.

The range of diesel engines starts with the 1.6 BlueHDi with 100 horsepower, which is combined with a five-speed manual. More powerful is the 1.6 BlueHDi with a power of 120 hp and a torque of 300 Nm, which in combination with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic emits only 85 g of CO2/km into the atmosphere. The top of the range is the two-liter BlueHDi with an output of 150 hp and a torque of 370 Nm, which in combination with a six-speed manual emits 99 g of CO2/km into the atmosphere. However, in addition to it, a six-speed AISIN automatic is also available.

Thanks to the use of the EMP2 modular platform , the 308 SW managed to lighten up to 140 kg compared to its predecessor. The platform itself has saved a full half of that weight, another 27kg has been shed by the station wagon through the use of high-strength steel, composite materials and aluminium, 33kg has been saved by a new design with lighter body panels and 10kg is due to improved assembly processes.

The body, as well as the interior, offers most of the elements identical to the hatchback. The i-cockpit concept with a small steering wheel, higher-mounted alarm clocks and a significant reduction of buttons on the center panel, which is replaced by a 9.7-inch screen of the multimedia system , is particularly innovative. Finally, I will add a few numbers – the front lights each consist of 31 LEDs , and in the rear reflectors we can find a total of over 48 LEDs.
