Peugeot presents the final version of its hybrid model

At the Geneva exhibition, Peugeot showed a model of one of the most economical cars today – the 208 HYbrid FE . The mockup became a real car that we will see in Frankfurt and on which the automaker has done a lot of work. Result? Consumption of 2 liters for the dynamics of the GTi model !

By itself, this statement sounds like complete nonsense. However, Peugeot is trying in every possible way to prove that it is possible. How? For example , by reducing the weight by 200 kg compared to the basic version of the 208 1.0 VTi, which weighs 975 kg. Furthermore, improved aerodynamics, reboring that liter three-cylinder to a twelve- hundred, which also received a new cylinder head and works in the Atkinson cycle, or using an electric motor from the racing model 908 HYbrid 4 , which, however, has a modified output of 40 horsepower.

The result should be acceleration to 100 km/h in 8 seconds with consumption of 2.09 l/100 km and emissions of less than 50 g CO2/km. Nonsense? In our editorial office, these values also seem to be overestimated… The electric motor itself, which stores energy in the lithium-ion batteries from the racing 908 HYbrid 4, is placed behind the five- speed EGC robotic transmission . The modified 208 can travel 17-19 km purely on electricity.

Despite the advanced stage of development, Peugeot is not yet planning series production of this interesting car. Hopefully, we will learn more information before the Frankfurt premiere, because this car will certainly not give many enthusiasts sleep…
