Opel will present a turbocharged three-cylinder in Frankfurt

The fashion for turbocharged small-volume three-cylinders is experiencing an unprecedented boom. For example, Ford, Fiat or Renault have their version. In Frankfurt, Opel will also join these brands, presenting the 1.0 SIDI Turbo unit.

It will boast a power of 115 hp , a torque of 166 Nm and 20% lower consumption than the naturally aspirated 1.6. The basis of the new unit is a cast aluminum block, there is also direct injection or continuously variable valve timing.

Opel has also taken care to reduce noise and vibration levels – the unit will be fitted with a special, acoustically optimized cover, which will "improve the three-cylinder units, which will move closer to four-cylinders in terms of noise and vibration levels."

The twelve-valve unit will make its first appearance in the city model Adam , where it will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. It will weigh only 37 kg and, if necessary, is ready to transmit up to 200 Nm to the road in other models.
