The current flagship of the Opel car company has undergone the expected facelift. Although not as radical as originally speculated, it is still very extensive. Opel promises greater unification with the rest of the model range from it and certainly also an improvement in sales.
You can register the first changes with just your eye. The 2014 model year Insignia received a larger front grille, new front lights and a modified bumper. These changes visually unite it with the smaller Astra and the Cascada convertible . The rear part received headlights, the appearance and construction of which are based on the Cascada. Hand in hand with them, Opel also modernized the rear bumper.
Even more changes took place in the interior. Here, Opel worked on the big ailment of the previous Insignia – a large number of buttons . Opel reduced that by using a multimedia system with an eight-inch touch screen . Also gone are the buttons on the center tunnel – here they are replaced by a new clustered controller. Other changes include the use of a sportier steering wheel and better materials.
Under the hood, Opel literally made a revolution. The range of petrol units now includes a pair of engines – a weaker 1.6 SIDI Turbo with an output of 170 hp and a torque of 260 Nm (280 Nm with the overboost function) or a more powerful 2.0 SIDI Turbo with an output of 250 hp, which can be equipped with all-wheel drive on request. The range of diesel units includes three engines. The weaker 2.0 CDTI is available with 120 hp and 320 Nm of torque or 140 hp and 370 Nm. The top of the range is the 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI version with 195 hp and 400 Nm of torque. As an alternative, Opel offers the 1.4 LPG version with 140 hp, which consumes only 7.6 l/100 km. Depending on the engine, you get a six-speed manual or an automatic.
The new Insignia will enter the market in autumn this year. In Germany, its price will start at 24,325 euros (approx. 624,000 CZK). The British twin from Vauxhall (same changes as Opel) starts at 16,279 pounds (approx. 492,000 CZK).
