Opel Cascada – new Astra Cabrio officially revealed!

The German automaker Opel has officially unveiled its latest model today. It is a four-seater convertible called Cascada and is aimed at the mid-range segment. This model is not made so lightly that the roof of the Astra was cut off and it was solved. In fact, it is a new model that is even supposed to become the brand's new flagship .

If we recap this year, the car company with a lightning bolt in its emblem has already presented its fourth model. The first of these was the Ampera , followed by the small city car Adam and the smaller crossover Mokka . The new Cascada replaces the Astra Twin Top model on the European market and offers the following dimensions – length 4697 mm, width 1840 mm and height we do not know more precisely, but it is higher than its predecessor. Compared to the competition, the Cascada is 71 mm longer than the Audi A5 Cabrio or 85 mm longer than the BMW 3 – Series Convertible . But in terms of price, it will be the cheapest candidate in the given segment.

The newly introduced convertible is built on a platform with the sporty features of the Astra and Insignia models and boasts an extended wheelbase of 2700 mm, which will ensure sufficient legroom in the rear of the car. HiPerStrut front suspension (sourced from Insignia OPC ) and rear will be multi-link. However, if you do not save money, you can pay extra for the FlexRide adaptive chassis (43% stiffer compared to the Astra Twin Top ), which will have three driving modes. A set of 18-20 inch alloy wheels will appear on the menu. While the Astra Twin Top had a fixed folding roof, the Cascada will only be offered with a canvas three-layer and will be available in three colors. This can be folded in 17 seconds into the 350-liter luggage compartment using a switch in the interior or on the remote control, but the car must not have a speed greater than 50 km/h . When storing the roof in the trunk, only 70 liters of space are "lost".

Under the hood, the new 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline four-cylinder Sidi ECOTEC with a power of 170 hp (later on with a performance variant of 150 and 200 hp) and a torque of 280 Nm will be revealed. Opel has stated that initially the new engine will only be offered with a six-speed automatic transmission. Of course, the engine compartment also features a 1.4 Turbo petrol (140 hp and 220 Nm). Fans of " black smoke " who will be looking for a 2.0 CDTi with a power of 165 hp and a torque of 380 Nm will also get their money's worth. The diesel unit will be paired with a six-speed manual or automatic. They are also thinking about a more powerful diesel engine, more precisely the new 2.0 BiTurbo (194 hp and 400 Nm), but it is said to come together with the powerful gasoline engine in " the right time ".

The exterior and interior can be said to be taken from the latest generations of the Astra and Insignia models, and later the list of standard and optional luxury equipment will be published. The Vice President of the Opel brand, Thomas Sedran , stated: "The new Cascada model offers all the typical features and first-class quality of mid-size convertibles from premium manufacturers, but at an affordable price ".

Vauxhall stated that the price of the new model on the British market will start at an estimated 25,000 pounds (approximately 765,000 crowns).
