Octane Decibels – Car themed clips

The music industry is a complex environment and difficult to compare for the layman. He usually only focuses on the music he likes. Of course, the performers and their producers want to reach as many listeners and therefore potential customers as possible. And even for those who don't look for their music themselves. That way, they can incorporate something into the text or clip that will interest new fans. A number of performers decided to rally car enthusiasts to themselves and filmed clips or wrote lyrics directly related to cars. There are quite a lot of them, and it could be a long series.

The Cardigans – My favorite game

The Swedish rock band The Cardigans released the album Gran Turismo in 1998. According to the frontwoman, spending time with music is like traveling, which is why they chose this name. However, the game Gran Turismo on game consoles will jump out at Petroheads. And when the second part of this game was released in 1999, this song actually appeared on the soundtrack. Compared to the original version, this one has been modified. From the automotive point of view, this song is interesting with its music video. In it, singer Nina Persson is speeding through the Mojave Desert in her 1974 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible , which she has put a rock on the gas. He drives very aggressively, breaks the rules and endangers other road users, which leads to a number of accidents. At the end, she gets up in her seat and crashes into the Ford van the rest of the band is traveling in, which catapults her from the car. The clip was already filmed in 1998 and many European stations refused to broadcast it as it was too violent. So the director Jonas Akerlund cut and edited the clip so that there is only a shot of Nina driving in the entire length. For me personally, the song is one of the best when driving a car, but I have no plans to imitate Nina 's driving.

Jamiroquai – Cosmic girl

The frontman of this funk band is none other than Jay Kay , a big car fan known as a multiple guest on Top Gear and owner of a collection of beautiful cars. The music video for Cosmic girl features a Ferrari 355 Berlinetta , Ferrari F40 and Lamborghini Diablo SE30 chase driven by Jay himself, with the band's bassist Stuart Zender as his passenger. Diablo belongs directly to the singer and unfortunately he hacked it later. An interesting fact is that the Ferrari F40 belongs to Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason , who also drives it in the clip. The clip was shot in 1996 in Cabo de Gata , Spain.

Scooter – One (Always hardcore)

The techno style is not exactly my cup of tea, but when it comes to cars, I shouldn't neglect other musical styles. The German band Scooter used cars as a suitable accessory in several clips. In the music video for the song One , the singer HPBaxxter drives around the beach in a beautiful Jaguar E-Type V12 Cabrio from 1973. In addition, the clip also includes cuts from the concert and from a kind of tunnel, where the band is standing in front of a Jaguar Mk.II from 1961. Both cars they come from the private collection of the frontman, who, like Jay Kay , is a huge car enthusiast with a large collection focused mainly on British cars.

War – Low Rider

Funk has already been in our article once, but this time we will have something more classic and from another continent. The American band War paid tribute in their song and for the first time mass presented something that is really a concept in America , especially in California . She showed cars on an air chassis with big wheels in a clip already in 1975. Today we can see them in a lot of clips of modern musicians, and also in other genres, especially in Hip-hop , but it was War who were the pioneers. Like the theme of the music video, the song itself has been imitated several times. It was this song played by Nicolas Cage 's gang of thieves when they set out to steal luxury cars in the remake of the movie Gone in 60 seconds .

Daniel Landa – The King and the Clown

Finally, something from the home scene. In late 2013, Daniel Landa (or his alter ego the magician Žito 44 ) released a music video for the song Král a klaun , originally composed and sung by Karel Kryl . Landa has displeased many people throughout his career with his speech and attitudes. However, he is a lover of adrenaline things, so for example he often participated in car competitions as a driver. Here he also met the several-time champion of the Republic in rally, Roman Kresta , and together they founded the Malina Foundation for greater road safety. Lando's greatest achievement is perhaps third place overall in the 2004 Sprint Rally Championship in his category. He also made the film Tacho about the rally, and his acting partner Olga Lounová later started actually racing as a result of the filming. In order to present his love for rallying publicly and also as a promotion of his activities, he shot a video clip with a rally car, namely an attractive black Skoda Fabia WRC with a runic symbol, in Český Krumlov and the surrounding area. According to his own words, the clip was supposed to be in the style of Ken Block and his Gymkhana . We can thus see spectacular passes, skids, slow-motion shots and finally the aforementioned Olga Lounova in a small role. In terms of filmmaking, I consider the video to be very successful by Czech standards. At least as far as the automotive theme is concerned, definitely one of the best.

So that would be the first song selection of an enthusiastic driver. There are a huge number of motoring songs or clips to choose from. For me personally, even if the music video is attractive to me because of the cars, it won't make me want to start listening to the band. There are, of course, exceptions, but more on that next time.
