The nightmare of Czech drivers will begin on May 9. Nothing stands in the way of the modernization of the D1 highway

Yesterday, the Ministry of Transport approved the necessary closures for the first two sections of the construction. There is nothing preventing the start of work on the modernization of the D1 highway. The approval concerns the sections between Větrný Jeníkov and Jihlava and between Lhotka and Velka Bíteší. Preparatory work in both mentioned sections will begin on May 9 , so that drivers are not affected during the May holidays.

The approved closures should not paralyze traffic on the highway in the coming weeks either. With the exception of one day, two lanes will be maintained in both directions of the highway. For the sake of traffic safety, the speed will be limited to 80 km/h in the narrowed lanes. In the section Lhotka – Velká Bíteš, restrictions only apply to the direction to Prague. In the direction of Brno, traffic will be conducted in the existing lanes.

In the section between Větrný Jeníkov and Jihlava, the crossings of the central dividing strip will be modified (9.5. – 20.5.), the shoulder will be widened (21.5. – 14.6.) and the shoulder will be repaired for directing traffic during sewerage repair. The shoulder will be widened in the section between Lhotka and Velka Bíteš (May 9 – July 10). On Saturday 11.5. traffic in Prague will be conducted in only one lane in this section.

According to the Ministry of Transport, none of the currently approved restrictions require the delineation of detour routes . For the time being, no decision has been made on the procedure for bearing substandard bridges. However, this entails greater traffic restrictions and in some sections even the complete closure of the highway . The dates of further closures will be assessed by the MD based on further requests from companies implementing the construction.
