Nissan's new experimental unit has only three cylinders

This year's edition of the famous twenty-four hours of Le Mans will offer, in addition to interesting battles between Audi and the rest of the world or the return of Porsche , also an interesting technical trick from Nissan . His special Zeod RC will be powered by a turbocharged three-cylinder engine!

The turbocharged three-cylinder DIG-T R has a volume of 1.5 liters and reaches a maximum power of 405 hp and a maximum torque of 380 Nm. The rev limiter kicks in at 7500 rpm. The gasoline unit will also be supplemented with an electric motor (Nissan has not yet announced how many), which will allow the Zeod RC to drive one electric bike in each stint.

The motor itself is very compact with a length of 400 mm, a height of 500 mm and a width of 200 mm. It also weighs only 40 kg , which gives a total power-to-weight ratio of roughly 10 horsepower per 1 kg of weight . That's more than Formula 1 single-seaters.

Zeod RC will compete in the Garage 56 experimental car category at this year's twenty-four hour event. We will find out how successful it is on June 14-15 , when the eyes of all motoring enthusiasts will turn to France.
