New engines under the hood of the Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 family has grown considerably since 2007, when the entry-level hatchback was introduced. It includes the 500C convertible , the Abarth sports version, the 500L and 500L Living MPVs , the 500L Trekking outdoor version and the 500L Pro utility model. Most of this extended family will receive new engines under the hood.

Let's start with the smallest hatchback, the 500 . The latter will receive a more powerful version of the turbocharged two-cylinder 0.9 TwinAir , which in combination with a six-speed manual transmission offers 105 hp at 5500 rpm and 145 Nm at 2000 rpm. Thanks to the low weight, the dynamics of the 500 0.9 TwinAir are more than decent – acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10 seconds and a maximum speed of 188 km/h. The average paper consumption should be around 4.2 l/100 km, 99 g of CO2/km will be released into the air – according to Fiat, these values are enough to meet the emission limits that will come into force only in 2020. Thanks to the Eco mode (maximum power limited to 98 hp and torque to 120 Nm) then the driving economy can be even better.

The MPV 500L and 500L Living , respectively the "plasticized" version of the 500L Trekking , will receive other news under the hood. They will receive a 1.4 T-Jet turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which has an output of 120 hp at 5000 rpm and a maximum torque of 206 Nm at 1750 rpm.

For more frugal customers, Fiat has prepared a 1.6 MultiJet four-cylinder diesel in combination with a six-speed manual transmission, with an output of 120 hp and a torque of 320 Nm at 1750 rpm. The heart of the unit is the third generation of Common Rail direct injection, the standard stop/start system takes care of reducing consumption.
