The new Volkswagen Beetle has been roaming European roads for some Friday, and with every other major motoring event, we impatiently wait for its open version. At the recently held auto show in New York , wheat did not bloom for us, but Car & Driver magazine obtained information about the launch of the production model on the market as early as next year.
The new Beetle Cabrio will share the engine range with the current coupe version in the European market. So basically, let's expect a 1.2-liter TSI gasoline four-cylinder with a power of 77 kW, a stronger 14-liter with 118 kW and a two-liter from the Golf GTI with 147 kW. Only the last-named engine will probably be available with a DSG gearbox, the other petrol units have to make do with a six-speed manual.
Of course, there is also a version with a diesel engine. Although in America they believe that the well-known four-cylinder 2.0 TDI with an output of 103 kW will be installed, for the coupe version we only have a direct-injection sixteen-cylinder engine with 77 kW. It drives the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
We will wait carefully for further information, according to Car & Driver , we could expect a production version at the November auto show in Los Angeles .
