The modernized Peugeot 208 received many new elements

Together with the 2008 crossover, the Peugeot 208 belongs not only to the best-selling models of its brand, but also of its segments in general. In order for the small hatchback to confirm its position, the French car manufacturer prepared a facelift for it, mainly expanding the range of offered versions and engines.

Although Peugeot talks about the design changes as quite significant, looking at the photos of the modified model, not that much has changed. What is new is the front bumper with sharper lines and a differently shaped area around the fog lights, or the radiator grille with a wider chrome strip and, in higher versions, also with a 3D effect. The LED daytime running lights are even more prominent thanks to the darkened rear lights, the same technology is also used by the 3D bars in the shape of lion's claws in the rear lights. The refreshed color palette includes 13 matte, (non)metallic or pearl finishes including Power orange metallic, the wheel range starts with 15-inch Nobium hubcaps and continues through aluminum "sixteens" and "seventeens" to carbon 18-inch Storm Mat rims on the GTi sports version.

Inside, the concept called i-cocpit with a small steering wheel, a raised instrument panel and a touch screen on the center console is still prominent. The steering wheel is covered in leather from the third trim level, while there is a stylish LED strip around the analog alarm clocks in the higher trim levels (on the GTi it is red). The seven-inch touch screen with access (depending on the equipment) to the radio, navigation, telephone, on-board computer or the Internet has also undergone changes. It can also be paired with a mobile phone, either via Bluetooth or USB, but mainly via the newly installed MirrorScreen system, which displays the phone's display on the touch screen, which makes it possible to use applications stored in the mobile phone and in the car. If the number of them is not enough, you can download more through the Connect Apps interface. Regardless of the equipment, the interior is always illuminated with LEDs, the controls are backlit in white.

In the introduction, we talked about the expanded range of available versions, the most interesting of which is certainly the GT Line , which, however, will not be available on the Czech market yet. Its specifics consist of a radiator grille with a 3D effect, 17-inch wheels with a diamond cut, shiny chrome around the mask and fog lights, mirrors in black, a chrome line around the windows and exhaust outlets, GT Line logos and red Peugeot lettering at the front and rear. The interior then received sports seats upholstered in a combination of red and black colors, a leather steering wheel with red stitching, aluminum door sills and pedals, red stitching on the seats, gear levers, handbrake levers and armrests in the doors, black glossy handles and black belts with red seams. The three- and five-door body will be available exclusively with the 1.2 PureTech (110 hp) and 1.6 BlueHDi (100 and 120 hp) engines. Another novelty is the sportier GTi by Peugeot Sport , which is nothing more than the GTi 30th anniversary edition included in the regular offer with a 208-horsepower turbocharged six-cylinder engine, a Torsen differential, Brembo brakes , a sporty tuning of the chassis and specific elements of the body and interior. A somewhat cheaper route to individualization is represented by exterior modification packages (from the second line of equipment) such as the one called Menthol White , which includes a 3D radiator grille, a black strip around the fog lights and radiator grille, black mirrors with direction indicators and colored Peugeot lettering on both ends of the car. Later, an interior modification package will also be available for it.

Under the hood of the modernized 208, only gasoline and diesel units meeting the Euro 6 emission standard will appear. The most economical are, of course, the 1.6 BlueHDi four-cylinder diesel engines with 75, 100 or 120 hp in combination with a five-speed manual (in the case of two weaker units) or a six-speed manual transmission. The entire trio can be equipped with a stop/start system, while the most economical version with this engine has an average consumption of 3 l/100 km. The gasoline range of atmospheric three-cylinder 1.0 PureTech with 65 hp and 1.2 PureTech with 82 hp was expanded by a turbocharged version of the larger one with 110 hp. The standard for all of them is a five-speed manual transmission, the 82-horsepower version is optionally available with a five-speed robotized ETG5 manual, and the 110-horsepower version with a newly developed six-speed AISIN automatic with Quickshift technology. The highlight remains the two versions of the turbocharged 1600 THP with a power of 165 or 208 hp, the more powerful version can be found in the sports models GTi and GTi by Peugeot Sport. The only possible transmission is a six-speed manual.

In the field of safety and comfort technologies, the new feature is the reversing camera and the Active City Stop system, which is automatic emergency braking in city traffic in the event of a collision. The popular parking assistant , which enables automatic longitudinal parking and exit from a parking space, has been retained . Like some siblings from the PSA concern, the 208 can be equipped with an automatic emergency and assistance call with vehicle location or a virtual service book.

The novelty will continue to be produced in Trnava and Poissy in France, the first pieces will reach customers in June of this year.
