MLB modular platform for all large VW Group SUVs

The MQB modular platform has proven itself very well for the Volkswagen Group, and the Volkswagen Golf, Seat Leon or Skoda Octavia are already based on it. A car equipped with the modular MLB platform will appear on the market later this year.

It is intended for models with a front engine, and the first swallow will be the Porsche Macan , which will be shown in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In addition to the Macan, MLB will also receive another smaller SUV – the Audi Q5 , which will arrive in a new generation in 2016.

The MLB platform is primarily intended for large SUVs . The first such car will be the second-generation Audi Q7 next year. This will be 350 kg lighter than the current model, even though it will be longer. The second model MLB will get will be Bentley's upcoming SUV (arriving in 2016). This will also become the heaviest model on this modular platform.

After Bentley, the pair of Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne will compete. Both models should come to the market at roughly the same time – sometime at the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017. Before that, however, both SUVs are due for a facelift. The last model using the MLB platform will be the Lamborghini Urus . This will only be introduced during 2017.
