Mitsubishi is working on a successor to the Pajero

The current generation Mitsubishi Pajero is already on the market in comparison to the competition. The Japanese automaker is therefore diligently working on a successor that will be significantly different from the current model.

And it will not only be about the design, but also about the type of drive. The newcomer, which could reach the market during the next year , will have a plug-in hybrid system , similar to the GC-PHEV concept , from which the Pajero will be based.

The front axle will be powered by a classic gasoline combustion engine with four cylinders , assisted by an electric motor located under the floor of the trunk. The electric motor will be powered by lithium-ion batteries , which will also be located under the trunk floor. However, sources from Japan state that neither the electric motor nor the battery will reduce the volume of the trunk.

At low speeds on classic roads , the Pajero will run on electricity , and the same will be true off-road, where torque is needed more than engine power. And it is the electric motor that provides maximum torque from zero rpm. They are reportedly betting a lot on this "trick" at Mitsubishi.

As for the appearance itself, according to the first renderings, it will be a mix of elements of the current Pajero and the already mentioned GC-PHEV concept , which will be reflected mainly in the shape of the body.
