Mini showed its first five-door hatchback

With the Countryman model, British Mini has definitively shed the city car manufacturer label. It was followed by the second Paceman SUV and the new Clubman concept , which even outgrew both cars. Now the BMW subsidiary has decided to break the myths again and presented a hatchback with five doors .

It will most likely be presented in October at the Paris Motor Show and will go to the first customers in the fall of this year. Compared to its three-door sibling, the novelty is 161 mm longer (3982 mm in the case of the Cooper and Cooper D, respectively 4005 mm in the case of the Cooper S and Cooper SD), has a 72 mm longer wheelbase (a total of 2567 mm) and has increased in height by 11 mm ( total 1425 mm). The single width of 1727 mm was retained.

Such an increase in dimensions was most evident in the interior , where legroom for rear passengers increased by 72 mm, headroom by 15 mm and shoulder room by 61 mm. The luggage compartment has a new 278 liters , which is 67 liters more than before. After folding the rear seats in a ratio of 60:40, the space increases to 941 liters.

On the engine side, four versions will be available from the start. The base is a gasoline Cooper with a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine with an output of 136 hp and a torque of 220 Nm (with a power boost of 230 Nm). This is complemented by the second petrol version of the Cooper S with a two-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder with an output of 192 hp and a torque of 280 Nm (with a power boost function of 300 Nm). The diesel branch is currently represented by the Cooper D version with a three-cylinder 1.5 TwinPower Turbo with an output of 116 hp and a torque of 270 Nm, respectively a two-liter four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo with an output of 170 hp and a torque of 360 Nm in the Cooper SD model . Basically, all engines have a six-speed manual, which can, however, be replaced by a six-speed Steptronic automatic , or in the case of the Cooper S and Cooper SD versions, by its sportier form.
