MINI is preparing a five-door hatchback!

In ancient times, the British car manufacturer MINI offered only one model – a three-door hatchback. Since it belongs to the Munich automaker BMW , its portfolio has expanded dramatically.

MINI began to produce modern cars at the beginning of this millennium, among which there was a classic hatchback with three doors , followed by the Coupé, Roadster, sharp JCW or even the Clubman station wagon. Then the first four-wheeler was introduced in the form of the Countryman SUV , and the last new model is the Paceman , or Countryman Coupé. According to the latest information, MINI is also preparing a five-door hatchback.

This is evidenced by spy photos taken by undercover sources from the website Carscoop . Although the test prototype has thorough camouflage, it is still possible to see another pair of doors. The more practical hatchback will offer a longer wheelbase and smaller front doors than the "three-door".

The new five-door variant will come to the market together with the new third generation , which will arrive traditionally with three doors in mid-2013. Both body variants will be built on the brand new UKL1 modular platform, which will be provided by the BMW Group . Interestingly, the compact MPV of the German brand will probably have the same chassis.

The same engines will appear in the three-door and five-door versions. Together with the third generation of the model, new turbocharged gasoline three-cylinders will also arrive, but we can expect redesigned four-cylinders for the Cooper S and JCW versions.

However, it is not even a secret that a year after the premiere of hatchbacks, a convertible will also be introduced.
