MINI 2014 – New generation officially!

The MINI brand, owned by the German manufacturer BMW , has been exciting us in recent months and preparing for the arrival of a new generation of its stylish hatchback. It was officially revealed today and we have the first information and photos for you.

The appearance of the novelty followed only an evolutionary path and thus does not radically differ from its predecessor. However, it stands on a new platform and has grown in all directions . It measures 3,838 mm in length , which means an increase of 114 mm compared to its predecessor. The width increased by 43 mm to the resulting 1,727 mm , the height by 7.6 mm to 1,415 mm , the wheelbase by 28 mm to 2,494 mm , and the track width of the front and rear wheels increased to the same 1,501 mm . The result of this increase is more space for both passengers and luggage.

The front-wheel drive was retained, and MINI is the first to present the Cooper and Cooper S versions. The first one has under the hood a new twin-turbo three-cylinder with a volume of 1.5 liters , a power of 136 hp and a torque of 220 Nm . Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is a matter of 7.9 seconds , the maximum speed is 210 km/h and the indicated consumption is 4.5 l/100 km . The more powerful version of the Cooper S received a twin-turbo four-cylinder with a volume of 2.0 liters , a power of 192 hp and a torque of 280 Nm . Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is a matter of 6.8 seconds , the maximum speed is 235 km/h and the indicated consumption is 5.7 l/100 km .

Later, the Cooper D will come with a three-cylinder diesel unit with a power of 116 hp and a torque of 270 Nm . With this engine, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds , the maximum speed stabilizes at 205 km/h and the stated consumption is 3.5 l/100 km . Other engine versions of the novelty will probably be added over time. However, all engines are available with three six-speed transmissions – manual, automatic and sport-automatic. The driver has a choice of two driving modes , specifically sporty and economical.

The interior style has been retained, but is now much more luxurious and ergonomic . The new multimedia system will support smartphone applications using iOS or Android operating systems. A head-up display is now also available with a lot of displayed information, from current driving data, through navigation, to the music being played.

From driving and assistance systems, we can expect start/stop, an automatic transmission that predicts the most suitable shift time based on cooperation with navigation, dynamic stability control, cruise control, automatic headlights, electromechanical power steering with variable effect, brake assistant with cornering braking support and much more.

Official sales of the new product will begin next spring.
