Mercedes showed the concept of a hydrogen car with autopilot

Autonomous vehicles are definitely the future of transport, which can also be said about hydrogen propulsion . When you combine both variables together, you should have an almost perfect car of the future. If only it didn't look like the Mercedes F 015 Luxury in Motion .

The egg-shaped body of the sedan with a length of 5220 mm , a width of 2018 mm, a height of 1524 mm and a wheelbase of 3610 mm certainly has exemplary aerodynamics, but the LED-illuminated radiator grille of giant dimensions and the LED diode panel in the rear bumper with the possibility of displaying text are, to put it mildly, controversial. The concept tries to make up for it at least in the interior, which you can get into very comfortably thanks to the absence of the B-pillar and the 90-degree opening angle of the doors. In addition, the seats automatically rotate 30 degrees when opened.

However, when talking about seats, they should rather be referred to as armchairs . The four individual seats benefit from the generous interior space as well as from the many displays , for example in the door panels or across the entire width of the dashboard (which recognizes gestures or eye movements). The wooden floor F 015 looks very luxurious. However, the main technical finesse lies in the possibility to let the autopilot drive for you. For this occasion, the interior can be turned into a kind of conference room by simply turning the front seats 180 degrees.

The drive is handled by a plug-in hybrid hydrogen system with two electric motors in the rear of the car, each of which produces 136 hp and 199 Nm, together they give a power of 272 hp and a torque of 398 Nm, which is enough to accelerate to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and a limited top speed of 200 km/h. Electric motors are powered by lithium-ion batteries , hydrogen is stored in tanks with a capacity of 5.4 kg at a pressure of 700 bar. Purely on electricity, the German sedan can travel 200 km, and a total of 1100 kg.
