Mercedes presented the G-Code concept

The smallest models in the current Mercedes portfolio are the A-class hatchback and the GLA SUV. However, with the latest G-Code concept , the Stuttgart automaker aims even lower, directly against the Renault Captur or Nissan Juke.

With a length of 4100 mm , the G-Code is a full 317 mm shorter than the GLA. On the contrary, with a width of 1900 mm and a height of 1500 mm, it is 96 mm wider and 6 mm higher, respectively. The design, which was worked on by centers in Germany and China , is dominated by curves, 21-inch wheels and LED lights at the front and rear. Instead of rear-view mirrors, we find only cameras, and the front mask, which changes color automatically according to the selected driving mode (you can choose from red, blue or purple), is also interesting. The silver multi-voltaic body paint is no less interesting. When standing in direct sunlight, it produces electrical energy, similar to a solar collector, and on the contrary, it generates electrostatic energy when there is a strong wind. Similarly, there is a chassis that produces power for the generator when the springs and dampers are compressed.

After opening the opposite doors, the interior accommodates a total of four passengers, each with a separate carbon seat . Instead of buttons, there is practically only a wide display at the top of the center console, which, interestingly, is backed by an atypical steering wheel in the shape of those from Formula 1. However, the classic ventilation vents have not been replaced by the display and, like the interior door handles, they are made of aluminum . And speaking of air conditioning, it uses oxygen generated during hydrogen synthesis to keep the air in the cabin clean.

This brings us to the powertrain, which consists of a hydrogen-powered turbocharged engine at the front and an electric motor at the rear. The G-Code is thus a quad bike. A dual-clutch automatic transmission takes care of power transmission . Although there are no specific data available, Mercedes probably calculates that the range alone will not be enough, and that is why there are two electric scooters under the floor of the trunk, which are recharged while driving.
