Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5 16V celebrates 25 years

In 1990, the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5 16V Cosworth Evolution II was presented at the Geneva Motor Show. And such an anniversary is already worth commemorating, because this coach with a massive bodykit and a huge wing still makes the hearts of Stuttgart car fans flutter.

Seventeen-inch wheels give the car an aggressive look. The engine produces 173 kW and the car reaches 100 km/h in 7 seconds. The maximum is then 250 km/h. Production ended as quickly as it began, i.e. already in May 1990. Only 502 cars were built and that was only due to FIA homologation for Class A vehicles in the DTM . The AMG department participated in the development.

And for Mercedes to remind us of this anniversary, its reporter Amanda Stretton took it up a notch in a video about the new C 350 e . The parameter comparison of the iconic hero with a modern car doesn't sound so good, but the youngtimer does a great job against the youngster anyway. The result that she would choose a modern car can be assumed from the PR video, but I don't understand why she didn't take at least a car that we could consider a successor to the 1990s, i.e. the C 63 AMG . Sure, the ecological PHEV reaches 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds and has a power of 275 horsepower, but it can also travel 31 kilometers on electricity. But when you have a 190E 2.5 16V, etc., you don't care how many pine trees by the road wither and how much ice in Antarctica melts (or rather it would melt if global warming wasn't a myth). The seven-speed automatic transmission in the modern sedan also robs you of some of the joy of driving.

With all due respect, in 25 years the C 350 e will not have the legendary status that the most furious W201 has today. The modern sedan is fast, economical and comfortable, but the boys will never stick posters of it above their beds like we did with the Cosworth version (although I had a 2.3 16V in there, but that's beside the point).
