Mazda is preparing two new SUVs

Mazda engineers are certainly not resting on their laurels. After the new generation Mazda6 and the smaller Mazda3 , Japanese factories are working to strengthen the positions of the currently very popular SUV segment .

Here, Mazda has only one model so far – the compact SUV CX-5 . Two siblings are to be added to this by 2016 – the smaller Mazda CX-3 will compete mainly with the Peugeot 2008 or Renault Captur, the larger model does not yet have a name, but there is speculation about the renewal of the CX-7 name , which ended with a similar-sized model last year. The competition of this model will be, for example, Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe.

We still know more about the smaller CX-3 , which is also expected to arrive before its "big brother". According to Autocar magazine 's unnamed source, the smaller model is expected to be a significant departure from the CX-5 in appearance: “The CX-5 was the last model designed by Laurens van den Acker. Although many details of the CX-5 are still up-to-date, the smaller crossover will be prettier and more expressive – exactly according to our current Kodo design language."

In addition to the two new SUVs, Mazda is also working hard on the successor to the small Mazda2 , which is due to arrive next year. In 2015, we will welcome the new generation Mazda MX-5 , which is developed in cooperation with Alfa Romeo, and the all- new Mazda5 .
