Mazda presented the new generation kei car Carol

Collaboration between Japanese automakers producing kei-class vehicles is not unusual in Japan. The eighth generation of Suzuki Alto becomes the sixth generation of Mazda Carol as if by magic.

If you're looking for changes between the Suzuki and the Mazda, you'll have to dig into the price list, or the body color part – the Carol will only be available in seven shades and will also miss out on the option of a different color for the fifth door . On the other hand, a stronger platform will remain as well as a body with a higher use of high-strength steel, which is positively reflected in the weight of the kei car. The version with manual transmission weighs 610 kg , the version with automatic CVT only 40 kg more.

This leads us smoothly to the section on engines and transmissions , where the number two lights up in both columns. In conjunction with the manual five-stroke engine, the 0.66-liter three-cylinder petrol engine has a power of 49 hp and a torque of 58 Nm, the continuously variable CVT increases the power to 52 hp and a torque of 63 Nm. The stronger version claims 2.7 l/100 km in combined mode according to the Japanese cycle JC08 , the weaker version is 0.9 l/100 km thirstier. And as is good practice with kei cars, in addition to single-axle drive, four- wheel drive is also available.

The basic level of equipment includes elements such as manual air conditioning , keyless access to the car, audio with two speakers, traction control, radar brake assistant , light signal during emergency braking and, in the version with a CVT transmission, also a heated driver's seat (the four-wheeler has a heated passenger seat as well). The base price of the Mazda Carol, which goes on sale today, was set at 847,800 yen (approx. 155,000 crowns).
