Mazda is considering a crossover based on the new six

The third generation of the Mazda 6 premiered at the Paris Motor Show , where it was shown in sedan and station wagon body styles. An even more precise sales date has not yet been announced, and the future of the Model 6 is already being talked about.

The program manager, Hiroshi Kajiyama , stated in Paris: " On my wish list is a crossover that should be a derivative of the new 'six '." For now, however, we would like to revive the performance version of the MPS , but on the other hand, I would like to welcome a new kind of body for the brand ". The discussed crossover should be something completely unknown on the current market, the Japanese brand would like to find a way to profit and fill an empty space in its model portfolio.

Kajiyama does not want to put the new crossover in the SUV segment, so he has to stick to the Zoom-Zoom strategy, which means that such a car must be fun to drive. The program manager said: “ I don't think an SUV offers a lot of driving pleasure. The good thing is the low center of gravity so that the feeling of fun can really be felt ".

Speculation is beginning that the new Japanese crossover could be in a similar vein to the BMW X6 . If the project enters development and subsequent production, Mazda will take into account especially design and driving pleasure, as it wants to have high sales. Kajiyama added: " If we don't meet our expectations and the car isn't fun, then it's not Mazda and I can't give a 6 to a car like that ".

We even already know that a crossover would have priority over a two-door coupe, and that surprised us a lot. Neither is a priority for the program manager, now Mazda has to focus on the latest flagship and new models or derivatives will only come based on high public demand. We will see in time whether the crossover will enter the concept stage and subsequent serial production.
