Mazda 6 Wagon Skyactiv-G EDITION 100 review – limited series celebration

The Japanese automaker Mazda celebrated its centenary last year, and what would it be without a proper gift. Mazda has thus given itself and its loyal customers a special series of cars that bear the EDITION 100 label.

Fans of this car company are well aware that Mazda has always followed its own path and thus adopted an original approach to the creation of its cars. It continues in this established trend and still maintains a considerable resistance to reducing the cubic capacity of its engines and the associated absence of turbocharging, as well as I feel a certain restraint in "spewing out" new and new modernizations of its models.

The currently tested Series 6 in the limited EDITION 100 series is characterized by the same characteristics. The Mazda 6, its current generation, has been with us since 2012, and yet it still looks amazing, especially in the wagon version.

Its basic athletic silhouette with the bewitching look that the front part has is simply impossible to look away from. The anniversary edition then enriched the exterior of the car with a beautiful white Snowflake Pearl metallic color, as well as plaques related to the centenary, which are located both on the front fenders and on the very centers of the beautiful 19-inch wheels.

The interior of the "six" continues to be dominated by a very clear and fairly simple dashboard. Its horizontal proportions and arrangement are clearly visible and elegant. As part of the anniversary edition, we have a few original elements, the most obvious of which is the wonderful combination of wine red seat upholstery combined with a white interior. If I forget for a moment about the practicality of the white interior, it is a beautiful combination that creates a very handsome whole with the white exterior of the car. In addition, we must not forget the headrests, which have an embossed logo celebrating this anniversary.

Otherwise, the interior of the "six" takes place in the already familiar spirit. Its workmanship is high-quality and ergonomically well-functioning.

The car's slightly outdated infotainment is still controlled via the HMI interface, which is located on the center panel. The display graphics are not advanced in any way, but they are still very easy to read and clear.

The interior of the car also has a large interior space, both in the front and rear positions. The luggage compartment of the wagon variant offers a respectable 522 liters of volume.

The annual edition was equipped with a naturally aspirated Skyactiv – G gasoline engine with a volume of 2.5 liters. After Mazda ditched the diesel and the four-wheel drive that came with it, it's unfortunately the only top-of-the-line option for this model.

The engine itself is tuned for performance at a respectable 143 kW with a torque of 258 Nm.

Its expression is very refined, ideally soundproofed for the interior. Motorization is further manifested by a continuous increase in performance. Imaginary horns, in the form of a greater zest for life, begin to stick out only at values above 3000 revolutions. In these positions, this engine is at home, simply Mazda as we know it.

The motorization also tries to save fuel, for this case it is equipped with a system for switching off half of the cylinders. Personally, I drove the six during a weekly test at an average value of 7.9 l/100 km .

The tested petrol also cooperated with a six-speed automatic transmission, which shifts very smoothly and smoothly. The automatic works very well, only the driving behavior of the car shifts more to a comfortable position and thus pushes the six to a different position than you want it to be. Yes, the transmission can be switched to the sports position, but it only holds the individual speeds for a moment longer, so it can't really indulge the feeling of sportiness.

In terms of chassis, the car is very balanced, it can be comfortable and at the same time, in the style of Mazda cars, also sufficiently sporty. You also get a good feeling from driving the car, which is quite steep and with good feedback from the wheels.

For me, the Mazda 6 is a car with elegant and dynamic shapes, a car offering enough comfort on board and a car with a sporty driving character.

The tested limited EDITION 100 series naturally continues the established trend. Its white metallic pearl looks amazing on the six, as does the white and red combination of the interior. There is also little to complain about the motorization itself, perhaps only the automatic, which with its character slightly undermines the inherent sportiness of the driving performance of this model.

And what is the purchase price? The basic six wagon starts from 816,900 CZK including VAT. This is the Attraction equipment, the car also has a two-liter Skyactiv-G 145 gasoline engine and a six-speed manual. The EDITION 100 limited edition currently tested by us is the very top of the price list and you can buy it from CZK 1,056,800 including tax.
