Aleš Loprais announced a change for the next edition of the Dakar . This time he will start with the Iveco Powerstar truck of the Dutch DeRooy team. The new alliance is finally set to defeat the Russian Kamaz cars, which have dominated the competition with two exceptions since 2002. And one of those exceptions was Gerard DeRooy 's victory with this car in 2012.
Both Loprais and DeRooy realize that the only chance to beat the factory team is to have several top drivers working together in one team and with the same type of vehicle. The collaboration was announced by both in Prague , where DeRooy traveled for the second time in his life. The new team has five cars at its disposal, two Powerstar bonnet specials, with which both Piots will ride, and three Trakker trambus specials, the crews of which have not yet been decided. Three Trakkers should act as a sure fast assist that will cover the back of the first two. The position of the team number one is not determined, it will be decided on a free day in the middle of the competition.
The two pilots agreed on cooperation by chance during the last year, when it was still a joke. In the end, however, an agreement was reached and Aleš is now waiting for the testing of the new car in Morocco . And Karel Loprais , who won the Dakar 6 times with a Tatra 815 (in 1988, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2001), consecrated his nephew's change of technique. The racing specials Tatra Jamal and 815 , which are available in the Loprais team, will be offered for rent.
