Land Rover presented a preview of the new generation of the Discovery model

The future of Land Rover is largely dependent on the success of the Discovery range . This will probably grow from the current one model to four, and each of them will aim at a slightly different target group . The Discovery Vision concept shows what the design of the largest of them could look like.

Compared to the current Discovery  the Vision is much rounder, offers shorter overhangs and looks less "off-road" than before. You also have to forget about the split lid of the luggage compartment – Land Rover replaced it with a classic fifth door, after opening which the so-called social seat slides out of the trunk. The front and rear parts found their model in the smaller Range Rover Sport.

The interior with a 2+3+2 layout is entered using opposite opening doors. The generous entry space is further enhanced by the absence of the B-pillar . Thanks to the independence of the second and third row of seats, the individual seats can be moved, removed, folded, and thus create many variants of the arrangement exactly according to the customer's needs. Today, the large display of the multimedia system , which is controlled using the touchpad on the steering wheel, is a matter of course.

However, the most important for this concept are advanced technologies . Discovery Vision has a transparent hood that works with cameras in the front bumper and under the car, which transmit the image to the head-up display in front of the driver, who can see the front wheels through the hood, Laser Terrain Scanning systems, which uses lasers in the fog lights to create a map of the road , and Laser Referencing , which uses lasers to project various images on the road (for example, a warning triangle) or the latest generation of the Terrain Response drive, which uses the already mentioned lasers in the fog lights to ideally adjust the car to the appropriate type of surface.

And what about the Discovery family we mentioned at the beginning? The Land Rover Freelander (US only LR2) will be replaced by two Discovery-badged models – one with five seats (RR Evoque platform), the other with seven seats. Above them will be the successor of the original Discovery (LR4 in the USA), probably based on the Vision study. According to as yet unconfirmed information, Land Rover is preparing a fourth Discovery model , which will stand between the successor to the Freelander and the new Discovery and will be aimed at the Toyota Land Cruiser and, together with high luxury, will also offer adequate cross-country ability. The new Discovery will become a very luxurious SUV .
